Last Week's Apple UDID Leaks Explained
cnet:
A small mobile publishing company said today that it was the source of the large number of unique Apple device IDs leaked to the Internet last week.
BlueToad said in a statement that it was the "victim of a criminal cyber attack, which resulted in the theft of Apple UDIDs from our systems." A UDID is a unique device identifier, which Apple has strongly encouraged developers to move away from for privacy reasons.
Good to know that Apple were telling the truth about not supplying the FBI with user information but it's little consolation to the owners of the one million accounts that were leaked.
On the plus side iOS 6 will prevent app developers from seeing users' UDID (Unique Device Identifier) effectively anonymising the user device from third parties once the newest iteration of the mobile operating system is launched to the public, presumably later this month.
